WINTER BOUND Is Out In The Wild! - Sneak Peek #3

Winter Bound is out in the wild for all the world to read. After taking most of September to finalize the details for the release, like formatting and pricing, I have also wanted to share a few 'sneak peeks' throughout October.

A special shout out to those who check out my blog, my site, my writing and considering purchasing my re-vamped debut novel. These sneak peeks are dedicated to you.

The following scene is from Chapter 12, with Nada and the pack going over to Fynn's house:

We went up the driveway and right up to the back door. I wasn’t sure why we couldn’t have just gone through the front door like normal guests, but that was a question that could be answered later. Fox knocked. Thuds of footsteps approached, and someone began to fiddle with the lock from the inside.

After the sounds of the lock fidgeting stopped, the door cracked open a bit to reveal a dim kitchen light and an older man who had seen some rough years. His brown eyes made him seem well beyond his actual age. He was casually wearing jeans and an unbuttoned black shirt that revealed a blue shirt and complimented his espresso skin tone. I found it nice that he was human, though his blood smelled of proud office musk that didn’t seem too appetizing to me.

Maybe it was the cigar smoke smell? He had a muscular, stocky body, and though he was taller than me, he was shorter than Fox. He had a five-o’clock shadow revealing a few specks of gray hair and a raised eyebrow when he looked at Fox with suspicious eyes.

“Oh, fucking hell!” he cursed in a raspy voice, and he opened the door wider to stick his shoulder out.

He had a newly lit cigar in his hand. The smoke smelled expensive.

“Fynn, we need your help on something,” Misty said.

Fynn sighed. “Fine.”

I let everyone walk in first. Fynn placed his hand up before I walked in. Fynn invited them in, not me. As a vampire, I needed verbal confirmation to be invited into a residence, but it didn’t have to be the owner of the home. It was an inconvenience of being a vampire that my mortal part didn’t cancel out.

“You’re new,” Fynn said.

“Dad, this is Nada.” Fox was careful with his words. “This is who needs our help in a roundabout way.”

“I recognize you,” he said, bringing me to a wave of spiked panic. “Although if you’re with my son and his crew, then I’m not inclined to not trust you.” With careful thought and analysis of me and a stoic expression, he nodded. “You can come in from the cold.”

I glanced at Fox as Fynn closed the door behind me and walked over to the table that was up against the wall. At one point in time, this house would’ve been a great home. Hell, even a great fixer-upper.

“Don’t worry,” Fox whispered. “He’s just defensive.”

“Couldn’t tell,” I whispered back.

Fox scoffed, catching my sarcasm. “He also hates vampires.”
