That's right! Book 2 is off to the editor and now I have to sit and wait patiently for the feedback and work on Book 3! Which seems like it will come to me a lot easier than Book 2 did...hopefully.

I will have the title and cover reveal in a different post and while I ideally would have loved to have released book 2 out in the wild by now, my 'day job' and life happenings beyond my control keep getting in my way.

Only this round of edits might be a little cheaper for me than it was last time for a few reasons. One being that book 2 is a little shorter than Winter Bound (book 1). Another being that I am getting a less involved edit that I did last time with winter bound.

Different types of edits are used for different types of things. And for an indie author who found a legitimate professional editor (Victory Editing), I had gotten a proofreading service for Winter Bound, however will need to hold on that for Book 2 and just get a line edit for now.

Possibly also for book 3 unless I obtain more book sales lol

What are these different types of edits?

Well there are loads of youtube videos about these editing styles but for now here are 3 main types of editing for novels in a nutshell according to google.

  • Developmental Editing:

This type of editing involves a close read of the manuscript, looking at the overall structure, plot, character development, pacing, and theme. The editor will often provide feedback on areas that need strengthening, such as character arcs, plot holes, or inconsistencies.

  • Line Editing/Copy Editing:

This level of editing focuses on the finer details of the text, including grammar, punctuation, word choice, sentence structure, and flow. The goal is to ensure the prose is clear, concise, and engaging.

  • Proofreading:

This is where the manuscript is carefully reviewed for any remaining errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting. It ensures the book is free of errors before it goes to press. (This is not a guarantee that the book is free of errors though).

For me, I went from Winter Bound having line edits to Book 2 only proofread but hoping that this will change as I sell more books ;)

Now time to start Book 3!
