The snow moon has some nice timing with Imbloc being the time between the winter and spring equinox(s) , the moon waxing into full during the rest of winter, landing on Imbloc as full, and waning as winter comes to a close for the season.

Then again there is an argument to be made that March is a winter month as well, but I think that defiantly depends on where you live. I'm in St. Louis, so the weather has a mind of it's own.

We certainly had the '26 Snowmagedon storm hit St. Louis, and we are still dealing with icky slush and ice aftermath of it, but that didn't stop me from day dreaming about what I want to do with my garden this year. I enjoy herb gardening, I find it quite zen when I'm not trying to fight the aphids off.

As I have a small balcony, I have kept a small herb garden around even before I moved out on my own, way before it gained the popularity that it did during the pandemic. My plant collection has grown steady over the years, and would love to add more if I had more room (and the land) to take care of them.

A few plants that I have year round include.

  • Elephant Ear

  • Jasmine Plant

  • ZZ Plant

  • Wandering Dude

  • String of Hearts

  • Snake Plant

  • English Ivey

  • Aloe

  • Arrowhead Philodendron

  • Spider plant

  • Lucky Bamboo

  • Money Plant

This may sound like a lot of plants but I promise that they have comfortable homes and don't really take up all that much room on the shelves. You may have noticed that I didn't have any herbs on that list. A lot of the plants above were gifts or party favors that started out as sprouts like the English Ivey (friends baby shower favor) or the Arrowhead Philodendron and the Spider plant (my mom's plants had sprouts and gave me one of the starters). Or they were super small when I got them and then grew to be giant plants that have a special place in my heart like the elephant ear.

The herbs I actually obtain every season. As with most years I have my default list:

  • Garden Sage

  • Basil

  • Spearmint

  • Rosemary

  • Lavender

I have been gifted 3 different growing stations, by 3 different people (and might end up giving one away) but I am hoping to try them out this season. I have a small prorogation station that looks more like a test tube holder when there is no plants in it, and a slightly bigger prorogation station that I made with 5 cleaned out glass Starbucks Frappuccino drinks and a small spice rack from Ikea.

I am not set up for spring quite yet but it is kinda fun to think about.

What are your spring plans? Do you like to garden too? Feel free to let me know.
